DONJA LOVE
Playwright
In a year already abundant with diverse Afro-queer voices in theater, Donja Love's brilliance was everywhere, both on and off stage. His Love trilogy was produced in New York, including acclaimed readings of Fireflies and In the Middle, and his Off-Broadway debut with Sugar In My Wounds, a queer romance set among slaves in the antebellum South.
Off stage, Love, who co-founded The Each Other Project with husband Brandon Nicholas, continued to speak loudly and eloquently on issues like HIV, masculinity, and the politics of privilege in the arts, from the stage of the Schomburg Center to his push-back on a New York Times review of his work.
